A press conference was held today to announce the names of the major players who have accepted the invitation to the Czech Masters 2019, which will take place at the Albatross in August.
Ernie Els confirmed for the Czech Masters
The sixth annual D+D REAL Czech Masters will be held from 15 to 18 August at the Albatross Golf Resort. The total prize money to be distributed among the players will amount to 1 million euros. The main star of the tournament will be Ernie Els, it was announced at a press conference today. The famous South African has won the Open Championship twice in his career, as well as two US Open titles. Ernie has won a total of 71 tournaments on the world professional circuit, 19 on the PGA Tour and 28 on the European Tour. "I am delighted to be playing in the Czech Republic this year. I have only been to the Czech Republic once, many years ago. I would like to invite everyone to the Albatross. It is a great opportunity to see world class golf and hopefully a lot of birdies. I am grateful for the invitation and hope to see you all at the Czech Masters," said Els via video greeting at the press conference held at the Vienna House Andel's Prague. Els, a former world number one, has won over 2 billion Czech crowns in prize money during his career.
"We have been working for several years to bring Ernie Els to the Czech Masters. He is part of the development of the tournament because he is the most successful golfer who has ever participated in the tournament. There are not many iconic players left to be invited to the Czech Masters. August will be an exceptional experience for us spectators," said Peter Dědek, owner of the Relmost promotional company.
Return of Lee Westwood and Ryder Cup stars Harrington and Bjorn
Three-time Major champion and European Ryder Cup captain Padraig Harrington will also be in attendance, looking to improve on his runner-up finish last year. Lee Westwood will be making his fourth consecutive appearance at the Czech Masters. The winner of 43 professional world events, Westwood recently added a Rolex Series title in South Africa last autumn. Also confirmed is Denmark's Thomas Bjorn, who led Team Europe to a successful Ryder Cup in Paris last year.
